Almost 6,000 avail the services of the Cebu City Public Library since it formally opened 24/7 to the public on March 9 this year.

One of the recipients, Ms. Angela Saban, 20 years old, a Development Communication student of the Cebu Technological University – Main Campus, expressed her happiness saying that Mayor Tommy Osmeña’s concern to students like her by giving them a decent and right place to study is something to be proud of.

She further added that the initiative is of great help to the students like her who wants to study in a quite place as she cannot study well in her boarding house as there are many of them in one room.

To recall, Mayor Osmena responded to one Mitch Roldan, a fourth year Electronics Engineering student of the Cebu Institute of Technology University thru a comment in a Facebook post.

In response to the request, the operation of the first ever 24/7 Public Library in the Philippines started on March 9.

The Cebu City Public Library offers services such as Reference, Filipiniana, Local Studies, Periodical, Internet, Children, Circulation and Browsing, among others. SMART Communications Incorporated is also planning to put up a Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) connection in the library for research purposes.

A study area is also available at the 2nd Level of the Rizal Museum and Public Library building as extension of the Library which used to be the Cebu City Tourism Office. The city also opened the first ever Study Center located at the 2nd Floor of Barangay Poblacion Pardo Public Market as extension to the library.

Headed by City Librarian Rosario Chua, the Cebu City Public Library management urged the public to Love the Library, Ask assistance if they need help, be a responsible Library user, read and talk quietly, always observe proper attire, and respect Library rules at all time. (Greggy Senados/PIO)
