A total of 1,197 workers in Cordova, Cebu are to benefit the PHP6.8 Million worth of livelihood assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-7), said OIC-Regional Director Cyril L. Ticao Wednesday.

The Regional Head said that the livelihood grant would support and provide jigs, materials and equipment needed for the business undertakings of the twenty-one (21) workers’ associations in the area duly registered by the DOLE.

Mostly coming from the town’s fourteen (14) barangays, the associations would soon venture into Meat Processing and Marketing; Restoration of Fish Cages; Tables and Chairs Rental; Alkaline Water Treatment and Refilling Station; All Season Fishing; and Printing, Lamination, and Photocopying Services.

Each association, the DOLE-7 noted, were apportioned with not less than PHP70,000.00 to PHP200,000.00 livelihood grant.

“The local government unit of Cordova, being our partner in this endeavor would take the lead in the implementation of the livelihood projects of beneficiaries ensuring that they would be executed effectively and efficiently,” said Director Ticao.

During the ceremonial turn-over of grants held last week, Ticao urged the beneficiaries to take an active part in nurturing the assistance they received from government saying that sustaining their projects and doing their best to make them lasting would be a good counterpart.

Ma. Grace V. Diaz, Chief of the DOLE-Cebu Provincial Field Office said that to help make the beneficiaries socially ready and prepared, the DOLE provided interventions by way of exposing them to project proposal write shops, trainings on fishery, food processing, and water refilling station as well as simple bookkeeping and project management seminar.

When all bidding, canvassing, and procurement of materials are put in place and business operations have been started, the DOLE, in coordination with LGU-Cordova through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO), would plunge into constant monitoring and evaluation activities to ensure sustainability of the projects.

The livelihood grants were borne out of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP).
