World Vision Ambassador Bianca Umali Visits Marawi Children

Following her 18th birthday, teen celebrity Bianca Umali flew to Marawi to bond with children in World Vision’s child-friendly spaces. Bianca was named youth ambassador for education by the organization in 2017 and has since become an active advocate for children’s well-being.

“When the children sang me a song about Marawi, I was overwhelmed. I was both happy and sad. I was happy to see them play, smile and just be children again in the child-friendly spaces. At the same time, it was sad to hear what they’ve gone through,” Bianca shares.

Aside from visiting the children, Bianca also went to World Vision-assisted barangays to meet some families who are starting to rebuild their lives.

“Meeting the mothers showed me how everyone’s help is making a big difference in their recovery. But I also saw more needs that must be addressed, including the need for livelihood opportunities. Without livelihoods, it is hard for parents to support their children so I ask you to never get tired of giving. Let’s work together to give the life every child deserves – a life in its fullness,” reiterates Bianca.

The Marawi crisis, which started in May 2017 has displaced at least 360,000 people and affected more than 50,000 children. World Vision launched its humanitarian response in June and has since catered to more than 43,000 individuals through its education, child protection, livelihood and health and nutrition interventions.
