Nation Celebrates 14th Women with Disabilities Day

The country will be celebrating Women with Disabilities Day on March 26 which falls on the last Monday of March pursuant to Proclamation No. 744 “Declaring the last Monday of March of Every Year as Women with Disabilities Day.“

The National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) which is mandated to ensure the observance of the celebration has organized a National Working Committee composed of members and representatives from the national government agencies, local government units, and leaders of organizations of persons with disabilities, and the private sector.

Congresswoman Bernadette Herrera-Dy of the Committee on Women and Gender Equality and Representative Party List of the Bagong Henerasyon will serve as the Keynote Speaker, and Director Carmen Zubiaga of the NCDA will provide the situationer of women with disabilities in the Philippines during the Variety Show of women with disabilities dubbed as “One Heart, One Voice” on March 22 at the Skydome, SM City North EDSA, Quezon City.

Other activities lined-up that will highlight on the theme “#ProgresstoSuccess: Babaeng Maykapansanan Sa Pagbabago Manindigan at Manguna Ka” focuses on the potentials of women with disabilities and the need to empower them as agents of change. These include:

(1) Livelihood Training on Waste Reuse on March 20 at NCDA;

(2) Boccia Tournament for Women and Girls with Cerebral Palsy on March 21 at Marikina Sports Complex;

(3) W.O.M.A.N for a Cause Concert at SM Aura Premier, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City; and

(4) Forum on Entrepreneurship and Employment for WWDs on March 26 at the Auditorium, Matapat Building, DSWD Central Office, Constitution Hills, Quezon City.

In a related event, all heads of constitutional bodies, departments, bureaus and agencies of the national government, local government units, government-owned or controlled corporations with general charters, and state universities and colleges have been encouraged to extend full support by conducting related activities as per Announcement No. 9 of the Civil Service Commission and Memorandum Circular 2018-12 of the Department of Interior and Local Government.
