LPA in Surigao now Tropical Storm “GORIO”
The low pressure area (LPA) spotted in Surigao is now Tropical Storm “Gorio”, said Pagasa.
In its weather bulletin issued at 5 am today, Gorio was spotted earlier 4 am at 500 km East of Surigao City with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph. PAGASA forecast it to move Northwest at 7 kph.
The weather bureau also raised signal number 1 to areas like Northern Samar, Western Samar, Eastern Samar, Dinagat Island and the Siargao Island.
By Saturday morning, Gorio is expected to be 360 km East of Guiuan, Eastern Samar; and 340 km East of Legaspi City by Sunday morning. On Monday morning, it will be 340 km East of Baler, Aurora.
Today, the Eastern and Central Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms, according to PAGASA. While Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.
“Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast to northwest will prevail over Eastern Visayas and Mindanao with moderate to rough seas. Light to moderate winds coming from the east to southwest will prevail over Central and Northern Luzon and from the northeast to northwest over the rest of the country and the coastal waters along these areas will be slight to moderate,” it said.
