CPSC Helps Badian Prepare for Upcoming Provincial Meet

A five-day training has been conducted by the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission in Badian to help the town’s athletes hone their skills for the Provincial Meet set from Nov. 26 to Dec. 2 in the municipality of Carmen, northern Cebu.

The first of the three series of trainings in Badian, which started last Monday Oct. 23, focused on three sports disciplines such as volleyball, taekwondo and table tennis.

“We want to help shape up the athletes to make them more competitive in the upcoming Provincial Meet. We see many potential athletes in the countryside whose skills can still be improved with proper training,” said Ramil Abing, executive director of the CPSC.

Abing said the CPSC has been deploying their coaches to towns and cities which solicit help to prepare their athletes for the province’s annual multi-sporting event next month.

The next training schedules for Badian are set on Nov. 3 to 5 for athletics and football and on Nov. 6 to 9 for archery.

Rogelio Moreno, who oversees Badian’s preparations, said they will be sending 125 athletes to compete in 10 events, including archery, arnis, athletics, chess, badminton, softball, football, volleyball, taekwondo and table tennis.

“The training is very timely. Knowing the basics and the technical aspects of the sports really spells the difference,” Moreno said.

Moreno cited last year’s better showing of its secondary volleyball teams, which made it to the quarterfinals after undergoing training with CPSC coaches.

In 2015, the town’s secondary men and women spikers bowed out of contention after the elimination round.

Moreno said he is expecting Badian to dominate again in the archery event where it won 16 of the 24 golds at stake last year.
