Close to 7T Senior Citizens in Minglanilla Receive Food Packs

Not even the slippery dirt roads could prevent the top Capitol officials from leading the distribution of food packs to senior citizens in far-flung villages of Minglanilla town.

Amid the slow downpour, Gov. Hilario P. Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale gave out food packs to around 700 senior citizens as the Halad kang Lolo ug Lola for Minglanilla wound down in the town’s five mountain barangays last week.

The distribution of food packs for Minglanilla, which has 6,750 recipients for the town’s 19 barangays, began two weeks ago.

“Bisan unsa ka layo ang barangay, kami mismo ni Gov ang mohatod isip pagpakita nga kamong mga senior citizens duol sa among dughan. Gamay ra kini nga gasa, apan kinasing-kasing namo kining gihatag,” Magpale said, adding that the program is for all senior citizens of the province, regardless of the social, economic or political status.

Davide, for his part, said that the Capitol would continue to look for ways to improve the lives of the senior citizens.

“Kami sa probinsiya sa Sugbo nagtan-aw gayud sa inyong mga panginahanglan. Atong paningkamotan kutob sa atong mahimo nga mahatag nato kini kaninyo,” Davide said.

The Capitol officials also reminded the senior citizens to avail of their benefits as senior citizens, particularly healthcare assistance.

Davide said they will do their best to partner with barangay and LGU officials so they can carry out more programs, like medical and dental missions.

Tasked to implement the Halad kang Lolo ug Lola program, the Office of the Vice Governor is targeting to distribute 10,000 food packs for the month of October.

Capitol officials started the distribution in Barangays Camp 8 and Camp 7, located 25 kilometers from the national highway, followed by Cuanos, Manduang and Tubod.

Joining Davide and Magpale in the distribution were municipal and barangay officials led by Mayor Elanito Peña.

Paulo Oberes, 63, of Barangay Tubod, was grateful to Davide and Magpale for going over to his village to lead the distribution.

“Lipay kaayo ko kay sila gyud mismo ang nangunay sa paghatag,” Oberes said.

The distribution will resume next week in Asturias town with 4,000 senior citizens expected to receive food packs from the province. (Kelvin Cañizares)
