Pope Francis May Visit Cebu in 2016

Pope Francis may visit Cebu in 2016 for the 51st International Eucharistic Congress.

Pope Francis last week had already announced the final dates of the event, which is on Jan. 25-31, 2016. The theme “Christ in you, our hope of glory” was also announced by the Pope on the same day. He has not, however, told the media if he is coming to Cebu for this event.

But, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma earlier said the Vatican has already made communications to them since last March.

Fr. Tito Soquiño of the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño also believes that the pope is coming over during that occasion. Soquiño said the Basilica has invited the pope to grace the Sto. Niño’s 500th year anniversary on December 2015, but the Vatican had asked that it be moved to January instead in time for the International Eucharistic Congress.
