Another travel advisory has been issued by the Bohol provincial government together with the tourism stakeholders here assuring the province is “very peaceful”.

In a travel advisory from the Office of the Governor of Bohol dated June 6, it reiterated that the province no longer have peace and order problems.

Tourism is one of the main economic drivers of Bohol together with agriculture.

Lawyer Lucas Nunag, chairman of the Bohol Provincial Tourism Council, during a recent media forum at the People’s Mansion said the Abu Sayyaf Group incursion back in April and May with the declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao slowed down the tourism industry here. He did not give any data to support the said decline in tourists arrival.

However, he was positive that the tourism industry in Bohol would recover just how it recovered following the 2013 earthquake.

The island province is not connected by way of air, sea or land transport from Marawi City, the advisory said.

Gov. Edgar Chatto stressed that the Philippine Airline flights to Korea from Tagbilaran as a testament of the additional opportunity for the tourism industry in the province to flourish.

The advisory was released with Chatto as a signatory, together with Romel Gonzales of the Bohol Association of Hotels, Resorts and Restaurants, Albert Uy of Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Peter Dejaresco of the Provincial Tourism Council, Brig. Gen. Arnulfo Matanguihan of the 302nd Infantry Brigade and Sr. Supt. Felipe Natividad, Bohol police provincial director. (Dave Albarado/PNA)
