MIND 7 Hosts Technical Exchange with CNN 4A and PROMO NutriCom

Three of the media networks of the National Nutrition Council met on 25-26 May 2017 in the Queen City of the South for a technical exchange activity to strengthen and capacitate each media group to be more effective advocates for proper nutrition.

The Media Information Network for Nutrition and Development 7 (MIND 7) hosted the activity for the 24 officers and members the Communicators’ Network for Nutrition in Region IV-A (CNN 4A) and the Palawan, Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro Nutrition Communicators (PROMO NutriCom).

Among the highlights of the two-day activities was the team’s visit in The Freeman Publishing House being the oldest newspaper in Central Visayas with MIND 7 Vice President for Print Ms. Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon. CNN – 4A and PROMO NutriCom also met with the members of MIND 7 where Presidents of each network presented their respective accomplishments and unique strategies, programs, projects and activities which can be replicated in their respective regions.

MIND 7 President Mr. Raul “Bong” H. Roxas (KBP), other officers and members including Ms. Anabelle C. Lagrosas (DYMR), Atty. Cynthia L. Barte (Smooth FM), Ms. Diane R. de Castro (Metro Cebu News Online), Mr. William H. Valencia (DYAR), Mr. Patrick Q. Suarez, and Mr. Gilbert C. Gonza (Love Radio) shared their and their network’s contribution in the NNC’s advocacy for exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding, heathy eating, lifestyle modification and related themes.

NNC 7 RNPC Dr. Parolita A. Mission in her message said that by harnessing the power of the media’s pens, voices, blogs to educate, entertain and influence the readers, listeners, viewers and followers, respectively can help make the necessary change in the eating patterns, caring practices and behavior of the people and collectively make a dint in reducing undernutrition, stunting, wasting, overnutrition and non-communicable diseases that the country is facing.

The local media campaign implemented by MIND 7 and the other media groups organized by the NNC is one of the components of the National Nutrition Promotion Program for Behavior Change, part of the twelve nutrition-specific and nutrition sensitive programs of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2017-2022. Such program involves nutrition education in schools, communities and in the workplace maximizing the power of the print, radio, television, social media and interpersonal communications for lifestyle changes.
