The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VII has started the distribution of cash gifts worth Php 100,000.00 to the 103 centenarians in Central Visayas region.

“As of this report, 69 centenarians in region 7 have already received the cash gift and hopefully we could finish the pay-out to the remaining centenarians by next month,” said Regional Director Ma. Evelyn B. Macapobre.

Macapobre said that the Local Government Units (LGUs) through the City or Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (C/MSWDO) lead in the identification and validation of the centenarians while the DSWD Field Office VII facilitated the provision of the cash gift.
Of the 103 validated centenarians, 64 are from Cebu, 35 from Bohol and 4 from Siquijor.

“We also encourage the families or relatives of the centenarian to use this cash gift for the needs of the centenarian,” added Macapobre.

This honoring and granting of additional benefits to centenarians is stipulated in Republic Act (RA) 10868 or the Centenarians Act of 2016, stating that all Filipinos, who have reached 100 years old and above, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad shall be honored with a Letter of Felicitation from the President of the Philippines congratulating the centenarian for his or her longevity and a cash gift in the amount of one hundred thousand pesos.
