Barangay Mabini First Councilor Magario Siroy, who is the new village chief of Barangay Mabini, took his oath of office Wednesday before Re-elected Cebu City Mayor Michael Lopez Rama.

By law of succession, Siroy, the number one councilor of Mabini, will assume the position as the village chief, following the unexpected tragic death of Barangay Captain Rey Oybenes, who allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in his chest last May 23, 2013 inside a Toyota Hilux in Sitio Tigbao, Barangay Talamban allegedly due to a relationship problem. He is the second Barangay captain for the term 2010-2013 from the city’s 80 villages who died following Barangay Buhisan’s late Barangay captain Rustica Asid,  who succumbed to death due to stroke in 2012. Oybenes corpse was laid to rest last Monday afternoon, June 10, 2013 at the Golden Haven Memorial Park located in the nearby Barangay Binaliw.

During the oath taking ceremony, Siroy who is a Team Rama ally was accompanied by other Barangay Officials of Mabini. The group had a closed-door meeting with Mayor Rama after the new village chief took his oath.

Siroy revealed to the media that it is up to Mayor Rama if who will be the candidate for Barangay Captain in the fast-approaching Barangay election set in October this year. He further shared that the Barangay will use the Toyota Hilux used by their former captain pointing that, “Gamit kaayo ang sakyanan sa Barangay, dili ta mahadlok kay naa may Ginoo.”(By: Greggy Jiggs P.
