Mayor Michael Rama had issued a memorandum order to the more than 3,000 Cebu City casual employees to stop reporting to their jobs effective on July 1, unless they will be informed that their employment papers are being processed for renewal.

“You are further advised that you are required to report on July 1, only if a renewal of your casual appointment shall have been processed,” the mayor said in his memorandum dated June 11 that were distributed to the different departments for posting at their bulletin boards.

Evangeline Abatayo, acting head of the City Hall’s Human Resource Development Office, said that until yesterday her office still did not know as to how many of the over 3,000 casuals will not be renewed.

The mayor said the renewal and hiring of casual employees who will be hired to work with him during his next three-year term are now under review by a team of his trusted personnel to find out whom among them will be told to leave City Hall.

Rama earlier said he does not want to work together with persons who are supporters of his political opponents, corrupt and lazy employees, particularly those who engage in intrigues among their fellow workers.

Some of the casual personnel who read the mayor’s memorandum order yesterday had mixed reactions.

“Gikuyawan g’yud mi kay basin og tungod lang sa entriga mapasanginlan mi nga mikontra sa mayor unya dili na mi renyohan sa among kontrata,” a female casual worker at the City Accounting department said.

When Rama delivered a speech before the Day Care workers in Barangay Cogon Central Ramos complex he reminded those employees who destroyed his immage during the election campaign period that it is up to him whether to renew their appointment papers.

“Sa mga misuporta nako ilabi na sa mga day care workers daghang salamat sa inyong pagtabang, apan sa mga tawo nga miguba kanako nga gihimo ko’ng druglord, buang, anti-vendor ug hapit na lang ko tumban sa grabeng pagguba nako, especially sa mga nagtrabaho sa City Hall nga mga contractual, casual ug job order, their contract will expire on June 30 ug anaa lang nako kon ako sila nga i-renew,” Rama said.
