Myanmar Reveals 10 Reasons to Visit During Green Season, Announces Top Travel Deals
“Going green” has been a popular catchphrase in tourism for many years. In Myanmar though, going green isn’t just a reason, it’s a season! The so-called “green season”, which runs from May till September, is the perfect period to visit Myanmar with plenty of opportunities for sightseeing and new adventures.
“Main tourist attractions in Myanmar such as Bagan, Mandalay, Northern Shan state, Kalaw and Inle Lake only get 25 percent chance of rainfall during the rainy season, and even if it rains on these days, it’s usually short. Travelers will therefore enjoy a very pleasant mild climate and green, lush landscapes,” says May Myat Mon Win, Vice Chairman (Marketing) of Myanmar Tourism Federation.
A report from TripBarometer also shows that 53 percent of travelers agree sightseeing is one of the top five most common things they are willing to spend more on as a treat. Another Virtuoso report also confirmed that travelers tend to go for new destinations.
Here are 10 advantages why tourists should visit Myanmar, an untouched and unique destination, from May till September:
1. Fifty shades of green from paddy fields to forests
2. Not too hot in the dry zone, not too cold in the mountains
3. Promotes sustainable tourism and helps communities earn a stable, year-round live able income
4. More hours of daylight to go sightseeing in a day as the sun rises early and sets in later
5. No dust!
6. Stunning, verdant landscapes
7. Variety of fresh fruits and vegetables at their best
8. Low tourist season means less to zero queue and lower chance of other tourists photo-bombing your selfie!
9. Wider selections of available hotels and room types
10. Attractive promotions and excellent value for money
To encourage even more tourists to visit Myanmar in this time of year, travel agencies have also come up with additional benefits and promotional packages for tourists.
Noteworthy promotions include offering a free lunch to every client if it happens to rain for more than an hour during your sightseeing “up country”. Other promotions are “stay for 3 nights — pay for 2” offers at hotels or “take as much luggage as you can for free” on domestic flights, to emphasise the fact that domestic airlines in Myanmar don’t charge any “hidden costs” and that in-country flights are actually very affordable.
Participating Myanmar travel agencies include Exo, Columbus, Asia DMC, Khiri, Adventure Myanmar, Sweet Memory, Asia Central Link, Taw Win, Sunbird, JTB Polestar, Ethical Seven Star, Mighty Myanmar, New Motion, Vision Travel, All Asia Exclusive and Orchestra Travel.
Hotels participating in the programme are Myanmar Hill Lodges, Vintage Luxury Yacht hotel, Villa Inle, Sanctum Inle, Melia, Inya Lake, Chatrium, Sule Shangri-La, Summit Parkview, Novotel Yangon and Amazing hotels.
Domestic airlines offering promotional fares are Air KBZ, FMI Airlines, Air Mandalay, Yangon Airways and Golden Myanmar.
Emirates Airlines, which has launched daily flights to Yangon since last year, understands the advantages of travelling in the green season and will continue to offer daily flights to Myanmar during this period.
