7 Quakes Jolt Cebu
A series of earthquakes, the strongest recorded at Intensity IV, jolted Cebu before dawn Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
No one was reported injured in the seven tremors that hit the area. There was also no immediate report of damage to properties caused by the earthquakes.
The first and strongest earthquake hit Asturias town in Cebu’s western seaboard at 3:41 a.m. Tuesday.
The quake was recorded at Intensity IV in Asturias town and Cebu City, Intensity III in Mandaue City and Intensity II in Lapu-Lapu City.
The Philvolcs said Asturias was the epicenter of the seven earthquakes, which was tectonic in origin.
The last time Cebu was hit by an earthquake was on Oct. 15, 2013, when a 7.2 magnitude earthquake caused major damage to buildings in Cebu and in Bohol provinces. (PNA)BS/EB/EDS
