LTO 7 Ready to Implement Crackdown on ‘DU30’ Plates
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 is ready to implement a crackdown on “DU30” commemorative plates, especially those who use it to flout traffic rules, an official said.
But Arnel Tancinco, LTO 7 director, said they were still awaiting orders from the LTO Central Office in Manila on the use of these commemorative plates.
Tancinco also said they still have to determine the amount of fine to be imposed under existing rules.
Earlier, Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said President Rodrigo R. Duterte would not tolerate motorists using “DU30” plates to avoid being flagged for a traffic violation.
”The President has always been for equality, fairness and justice,” Andanar said.
Tancinco said there was an existing rule on the use of commemorative and vanity plates.
The LTO also prohibited the use of vehicles, which have no plate numbers, he said.
”The LTO will arrest all traffic violators, even those vehicles with DU30 plates,” Tancinco said.
But he said the agency has nothing to do with the “DU30” stickers on private cars which may have been used during the last elections. (PNA) RMA/EB/EDS
