Construction of Php 1.5-B Cebu City Hospital Suspended Starting Monday

The construction of Php 600-million phase one of the new Php 1.5-billion Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) will be suspended starting Monday, June 20, pending compliance with some requirements.

Cebu City Acting Mayor Margarita Osmeña said the decision to put the work on hold came after she met with the contractor, architect and some acting city government department heads.

She said the suspension of the civil work would last for less than two weeks.

Work would immediately resume after all the permits were complied with, she said.

“We’ve decided that we will suspend the construction works but only for a limited period of time, which the group themselves gave the deadline and that is before the end of this month,” she said.

Osmeña said she met with representatives of C.E. Padilla Construction, the contractor; Architect Mico Espina; Acting City Engineer Josefa Ylanan, who also serves as officer-in-charge of the Office of the Building Official (OBO); and representatives of the City Planning and Development Office.

Osmeña said the contractor needed to secure a building permit, among others.

The building permit was not processed because the ownership of a portion of the 4,000-square-meter lot on Panganiban St., or the site of the 10-story hospital, has yet to be established.

The lot is part of one lane of the road that the city fenced when the construction began last July to allow heavy equipment to move around the project site.

Ylanan said the building permit can only be processed when the ownership question is resolved. (PNA) RMA/EB/SSC
