Baldoz Tells Jobseekers To Bring Necessary Documents To 2016 Labor Day Job Fairs

As the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) revs up its preparation for the 114th Labor Day celebration on 1 May, Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz yesterday reminded jobseekers to be armed and ready for their job search at the 44 job and career fairs venues nationwide.

“Whether you are going to the job fair at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, or to another job fair in a particular city or province, a basic requirement is to have your application documents ready as job opportunities in all the 44 job fairs will be aplenty on 1 May,” Baldoz said.

She said among the documents required by employers at the job fair are resume or curriculum vitae (bring extra copies for multiple job applications); 2 x 2 ID pictures; certificate of employment for those formerly employed; diploma and/or transcript of records; and authenticated birth certificate.

“Being prepared will give our jobseekers higher chances of finding jobs suited to their qualifications as employers can already pre-screen their documents and interview those who are qualified,” said Baldoz, adding that having all pre-employment documents readily available shall allow for the employers faster and easier job selection and processing.

“This will increase the chances of applicants to be hired-on-the-spot (HOTS),” Baldoz said.

She added that there will be over 200,000 vacancies in the 44 job fairs which will be participated in by 1,000 employers, 800 local and 200 overseas companies, in the country’s 17 regions.

“Choose the position that best fits your qualification from the list of vacancies that would be made available at the fairs. Take note of the company’s name then proceed to the company’s booth,” Baldoz said.

“Better still, do a little research on the company you are interested in. This will be a big help in the interviews. Employers will interview, pre-select, and hire on-the-spot qualified workers, but if the applicant is not qualified, he may opt to look for other vacancies,” she added.

The theme of the 2016 Labor Day celebration is ‘Kinabukasan Sigurado sa Disenteng Trabaho,’ which underscores the DOLE’s effort in securing decent jobs for the future of the country, particularly its workers and employers.

The Labor Day job fairs are open to all unemployed, skilled and unskilled workers, fresh college graduates, graduates of training institutions, displaced workers and employees seeking career advancement. (DOLE)
