Taipei, Bacolod Strengthen Ties
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) and its representatives Dr. Gary Song-Huann Lin and wife Lin Shern Su Hwa recently met with Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella to talk on improving sisterhood ties.
“I believe this is the time for Bacolod to diversify and to seek further development,” said Ambassador Lin.
Lin will turnover 21 sets of computers to aid in refining digital education of the community, the youth in particular, through the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Digital Opportunity Center.
The turnover is the result of the effort of the Taiwanese government, various stakeholders, non-government agencies which includes the Fil-Chi Love & Care Foundation, Inc., and private technology outfits the Institute of Information Industry in Taiwan and the Philippine Engineers Association.
Puentevella commended Taiwan’s waste to energy program, a system that he sees the city can implement in the future, a release from the City Information Office said.
He said that it is one of the priority programs of the projected Metro Bacolod Development Authority (MBDA) which will include the nearby cities of Talisay, Silay and Bago, as well as Murcia town.
For his part, Alfredo Barcelona, President of Bacolod Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce said that the MBDA is part of good working relationship between the city government of Bacolod and the Provincial Government.
Both are working together for a comprehensive development thrust that will propel the province not only as the sugar capital of the country, but as a diversified economy, he said. (JCM/CBA/PIA-Negros Occidental)
