11th Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge Launched
SM Supermalls and the Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines (MTG) have signed a new agreement to launch the 11th Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge (PSSC) nationwide.
Millie Dizon, SM Supermalls vice president for marketing and communications, and Dr. Isidro Aguilar, MTG president, inked the new memorandum of agreement at the launch of the 11th PSSC and 2016 Challenge for Future Mathematics (CFM) at the Filmfest Cafe in Mandaluyong City.
“We are very grateful to SM Supermalls for supporting the Sudoku contest from the start. This is the 11th year that SM Supermalls and MTG are partnering and we are also thankful for SM’s commitment to the Challenge for Future Mathematics competition,” said Dr. Simon Chua, MTG founding president and board member.
Dr. Chua witnessed the signing together with MTG treasurer Manuel Kotah and MTG adviser Myrna Agtarap.
Under the agreement, SM Supermalls will serve as the exclusive sponsor and host of the 11th PSSC regional eliminations that will be held on Oct. 15 at various SM Supermalls nationwide and the national finals slated on Jan. 28, 2017 at The Skydome at SM City North EDSA in Quezon City.
Dizon said the Sudoku regional eliminations will be held at SM Supermalls in Cagayan De Oro, Dasmarinas (Cavite), Baguio, Cebu, Pampanga, Iloilo, Lucena, Baliwag, Bacolod, Lipa (Batangas), Rosales (Pangasinan), Tarlac, Davao, Naga, Olongapo and Marikina.
Meanwhile, the 2016 Challenge for Future Mathematics finals is set on Nov. 12 this year.
MTG and SM Supermalls wrapped up the 10th Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge at The Skydome last Jan. 30 wherein Candice Renee Beatrice Solidarios, a 15-year-old Grade 10 student of the University of the Philippines (UP) Rural High School in Laguna, won as the country’s new Sudoku grandmaster and bagged Php60,000 in cash prize.
Grade 10 student Errol John Suarez of Aquinas University emerged as champion in the Wizard division for high school students while Grade 6 student Christian Bayas of Akle Elementary School won as champion in the Whiz Kid division for elementary students.
The Sudoku winners will represent the Philippines in various international contests this year. (PNA) SCS/PR/EDS
