Comelec Reminds Local Candidates To Follow Campaign Rules
As the campaign of local candidates is expected to go full-blast this week, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has reminded the candidates and their supporters to follow the campaign rules.
“The Comelec continues to remind candidates that campaigning is governed by rules contained in Republic Act No. 9006 and the implementing rules and regulations promulgated by the Comelec,” said Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez in a statement.
He added, “We urge compliance from candidates and their supporters…”
Jimenez noted that the start of the campaign period, which was last March 25, was quiet since it was prohibited to campaign on Good Friday.
“However, the day was marred by reports of violations of the campaigning ban. These are currently being looked into,” he said.
With this, the poll body official urged the public to be vigilant and report to them violations of the rules and regulations on campaigning as provided by law.
“We ask the public to remain vigilant and to report possible violations to the Comelec through our social media hotline #SumbongKo,” he said.
The campaign period for aspirants looking to be elected as members of the House of Representatives, as well as regional, provincial, city, and municipal posts will run until May 7. (PNA) SCS/FGP/RSM
