PRO 7 To Deploy Cops In Tourist Spots In Central Visayas During Holy Week

The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 will deploy more police personnel in tourist spots in Central Visayas to secure local and foreign tourists during Holy Week, an official said.

Senior Superintendent Rey Lyndon Lawas, PRO 7 deputy director for operations, said many tourists flock to the different tourist spots in the provinces of Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor.

He said PRO 7 no longer has jurisdiction over Negros Oriental because it is now part of the Negros Island Region.

In Cebu, the major tourist spots during the Holy Week are Bantayan Island and Malapascua Island off northern Cebu and Moalboal and Oslob towns in southern Cebu.

Lawas said all police stations will be tasked to monitor the staging of concerts and discos during the Holy Week in Cebu, especially in Bantayan Island.

The celebration of the Holy Week turns into a festive mood on Good Friday in Bantayan with the colorful display of “carrozas” in the town.

The Holy See has granted a special privilege to island residents, mostly fishermen, to eat meat during the Holy Week since the Spanish colonial times.

Some resorts in the island also stage bikini shows during the Holy Week.

But a Cebu provincial ordinance forbids the staging of bikini shows and other indecent events during Holy Week.
