DSWD-7 Kicks Off Adoption Consciousness Week Celebration

Ten child caring agencies attended the opening salvo of the Adoption Consciousness Week celebration earlier today.
It was participated in by the Albert Schweitzer Familienwerk Foundation, Inc. (ASFFI), Asilo dela Milagrosa, Children Shelter of Cebu, Children of Cebu Foundation, Inc. (Pari-an Drop in Center), Casa Miani, Franciscan Sister of the Sacred Heart Children’s Home, Norfil Foundation Inc., SOS Children’s Village of Cebu, Inc., My Bonita Home for Girls, and DSWD’s Reception and Study Center for Children (RSCC).

The week-long celebration started with a motorcade along the major thoroughfares of Cebu City and culminated with an opening salvo held at SM City Cebu Event Center.

“There is no difference between an adoptive parent and a biological parent, both give love to their children,” said DSWD-7 Regional Director Ma. Evelyn B. Macapobre.

Macapobre further said that there is nothing wrong being an adopted child, once you are legally adopted, you become a real child to the adoptive parents.

During the program, participating children showcased their talents in singing, dancing and playing of various musical instruments.

Other activities lined-up for the celebration are mural contest to be conducted on February 19 at the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center II (AVRC) in Labangon, Cebu City and adoption help desk at SM City Cebu, SM City Consolacion and SM Seaside City Cebu from February 21 to 22.

Assigned social workers in the help desk will discuss the legal adoption process to couples and individuals who would be interested to adopt a child.

This year’s celebration carries the last year’s theme “Legal na Ampon ako, anak na Totoo (A Child finds worth in Legal Adoption)”, which further reinforces the need for prospective adoptive families to consider legal adoption as the only option to secure the best interest of the child.
