Regional Director Ador Canlas of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-7) appealed for public understanding as traffic is expected to worsen in Mandaue City when the agency starts to implement two overdue projects in the area starting this weekend.

The two projects mentioned by Canlas during a recent press conference are the Upgrading of the Ouano Avenue Concreting and the Repair and Rehabilitation of the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge.

“These projects are supposed to be implemented last year sometime in August but due to the many activities in Cebu such as the APEC, Sinulog and the IEC then these were postponed,” said Canlas.

Canlas said it is high time the agency implements the projects as these are funded yet by the 2015 General Appropriations Act.

For the repair of the Ouano Road, Canlas said this will start today with equipment preparations but partial closure will only begin by Friday from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. as the project completion is expected on July 3, this year.

In a presentation shown to the media and other stakeholders, DPWH-7 officials assured that there will be no total road closure as the repair of the 1.1 kilometer 4-lane Ouano Avenue Road will be done by segments per lane.

Total project repair cost is pegged at P50 million.

For the repair and rehabilitation of the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge, works will begin on Monday, February 8, on an eight-hour daily basis, said Canlas.

Canlas said works will involve on the removal of existing damaged deck slabs, reinforcement of formworks and installation of reinforcing steel bars as well as concrete pouring among others.

Completion of the Mandaue-Mactan repair and rehabilitation works is expected by December, this year. (rmn/fcr/PIA7)
