Capitol To Distribute 50 Motor Boats

Some 50 fishing boats will be distributed to fishermen’s associations affected by typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in the north in 2013.

Officer-in-Charge Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Roldan Saragena said the ceremonial distribution of the pump boats will be held in the town of Cordova on February 26.

The 16 local government units walloped by the typhoon on November 8 2013 include the 7 towns in the islands of Bantayan and Camotes.

In the mainland, Bogo City, Borbon, Daanbantayan, Medellin, Sogod, San Remigio, Tabogon, Tabuelan, and Tuburan were likewise not spared.

The P6 million funds used to manufacture 16 horsepower motor boats came from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. It was downloaded to the Capitol which then did the procurement process through the Provincial Agriculturist Office.

Each motor boat including the fishing gears costs P100,000.00. It can accommodate up to 15 fisher folks on board.

Saragena said the boats could have been made much earlier but they encountered problems during the bidding process.

The boats were manufactured in Cordova. The contractor is Cebu-based but the skilled workers who assembled the boats came from Bohol.

“Naglisod tag pangita ug supplier kay kinihanglan mag skilled jud ang mohimo,” said Saragena.

He added that Cordova was chosen as the venue for the distribution for practical purposes. He said the site where the boats are stationed is big enough to accommodate the recipients and the invited guests during the ceremonial turn-over.

Saragena also stated that they plan to enter into a tripartite agreement with the beneficiaries and the LGUs. He reasoned that they wanted to ensure that the recipients can reap its benefits for a longer period of time.
