Modern Society Meets Culture and Heritage

Since 1954, The Mayflower Inn has already been a witness to how the Queen City of the South has changed from the laidback Cebu to the metro and busy Sugbo.

With the theme “Celebrating Families of Stewards of Our Cultural and Natural Heritage”, the Mayflower Inn re-launches their hotel with a heritage and permaculture inspiration.

With its Philippine-Latin interiors, the new hotel offers features that promote our rich culture and heritage. One of the major heritage features is the _La Pared de las Cruces_ (The Wall of Crosses). This is one of the highlights of the hotel. According to Miss Edna Lee, Chief Stewarding Officer, _“Our faith and our Christianity plays an important role in our society.” _Other heritage features are the _World Folk Art Collection, World Folk Instrument Collection, Devotional Art, Heritage and Permaculture Library, and The Living Tradition Showcase_. All of these are family collections that have been handed down from three generations. These have been collected through travels and gifts of family friends.

They also have eco features in their hotel that is very unique among the all the hotels here in Cebu and very friendly to the environment as well. They have a _Mini Forest Garden_, where the waterfalls and pond is located. This is where their resident koi, turtles, and regularly visiting birds are. They also encourage _Natural Daylighting _all around the hotel. As much as possible they want to use sunlight to light the hotel in the morning, this way they are able to conserve energy. They also have, what they call, ‘Naked Soaps’. These are soaps that are not wrapped in plastic wrappers but rather left ‘naked’ so as to help reduce the use of plastic. All these eco features and more when you visit The Mayflower Inn.

_“We should find ways in which our business propagates culture_,” says Miss Edna Lee.
