Mandaue City’s 14,000 Seniors Start Receiving PHP1,500 Cash Aid

The Mandaue City Government on Monday started distributing the PHP1,500 cash assistance to the city’s 14,000 senior citizens.

Distribution of the cash aid in the 27 different barangays in the city, will continue throughout this week.

Senior citizens in Mandaue City who were registered with the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (Osca) received half of their PHP3,000 yearly financial assistance last July.

Michael Pielago, Osca’s focal person, said the senior citizens will receive higher cash aid next year.

Earlier this year, the Mandaue City Council approved an ordinance increasing the yearly aid to PHP6,000 each.

The amount will still be given in two tranches.

Mandaue City officials and regular employees are also set to receive at least P10,000 in yearend cash incentive.

The Mandaue City Council approved the granting of the incentive last month.

More than 500 officials and employees will receive the cash incentive, with those earning a monthly salary of PHP10,000 and above getting an amount equivalent to one month salary and those earning less receiving PHP10,000.

The city allocated PHP10.8 million for the incentive.

Mandaue City Councilor Diosdado Suico, who sponsored the ordinance granting the incentive, said the city will not give cash incentive to job order workers to avoid being questioned by the Commission on Audit (COA).

Clean and Green employees and barangay nutrition and health workers will also not receive cash incentive.

COA has asked the City to refund the amount given as cash incentive to non-regular employees in previous years. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
