Gullas Concedes;JVR Promises Change in Talisay
Talisay City mayor-elect Johnny V. De los Reyes (JVR) assured many changes in Talisay City when he begins to sit as mayor.
De los Reyes, for one, said one of the things that he will do is to re-open the Tabunok Public Market.
It is said that the issue on the transfer of the vendors from the said market to Lagtang Public Market was the cause of the downfall of first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas. It was Gullas who constructed the Lagtang market when he was mayor of Talisay in 2004. Gullas ran against delos Reyes last Monday, but lost by 736 votes. The official count of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) revealed that the veteran legislator garnered 38,717 votes, while Delos Reyes got 39,453. Delos Reyes was proclaimed as mayor elect at 2 p.m. yesterday.
Meanwhile, Gullas conceded to Delos Reyes early yesterday afternoon, and assured to extend help for the new administration. “Against the advice of my lawyers and loyal supporters, I humbly concede to my worthy opponent. In a private capacity, I will support and help the new administration in whatever good projects it may have for the City of Talisay.” Gullas said.
