Police Reports Lower Crime Volume in Leyte
Tacloban City — Police reported lower crime volume in Leyte province in the past three months compared to the same period last year.
From June to August this year, the Leyte police provincial office reported that number of crimes dropped by 12 percent to 1,686 from 1,998 in the same period last year.
Index crime also decreased to 778 cases in 2015 or 24 percent less compared to 1,030 cases from June to August last year. Non-index crime went down by two percent from 888 in 2014 to 908 this year.
The police reported 16 homicide incident with three cases in Abuyog town, said police provincial director Senior Superintendent Franco Simborio, in a presentation during the recent provincial peace and order council meeting.
There were 31 murder incidents and more prevalent in the towns of Albuera and Jaro, with three incidents each.
The province has 391 physical injury cases. The crime is more prevalent in Palo with 85 incidents during the period.
To combat crime, Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla said the provincial government provides interventions and livelihood to most vulnerable people.
This is a major strategy to ensure that people’s attention are diverted to more productive activities, hence, attaining reduced crime rates and achieve peace.
This program is in cooperation with the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines which identify areas in the province of Leyte that needs interventions. (PNA)
