Typhoon Hanna to Exit on Saturday, Expects to Make Landfall in Taiwan

(PNA) — Typhoon “Hanna” maintains its strength and is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsiblity on Saturday morning as it continues to move closer towards Batanes-Taiwan area,the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services (PAGASA) said in its latest weather bulletin issued at 11 a.m. Friday.

In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said typhoon Hanna continues to move west northwest at 20 kph and though it is not expected to make landfall in any part of the country, typhoon Hanna is expected to exit the country by Saturday as it heads towards Taiwan and China.

Once it exits it is not expected to recurve or return to the country, he noted.

He added the typhoon will make landfall in Taiwan before 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8

As of 10 a.m. the eye of Typhoon “Hanna” was located based on all available data at 395 km East Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes (22.0°N, 125.4°E) packed with maximum sustained winds of 165 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 200 kph.

Aurelio said that public storm warning signal No. 2 (61-120 kph expected in 24hrs.) is still raised in Batanes Province including Itbayat.

The Wave Height is 4.1-14 on Storm surge possible at coastal areas.

Public storm warning signal no. 1 (30-60 kph expected in 36 hrs.) is still hoisted in Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands and Northern Cagayan.

Wave Height: (Open Sea) 1.25-4.0 meters

The estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within the 700 km diameter of the typhoon.

Fisher folk are advised not to venture out over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon, southern seaboard of Southern Luzon and the seaboards of Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao.

The Southwest Monsoon will continue to induce rains in Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao as residents in low lying and mountainous areas are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. (PNA) CTB/CLTC
