Typhoon ‘Goring’ Maintain Strength, Direction –PAGASA
(PNA) — Typhoon “Goring” has maintained its strength and direction, while the low-pressure area (LPA) off Cagayan continues to bring rains over Northern Luzon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In its update, the weather agency said that as of 10 a.m. Friday, the eye of typhoon “Goring” was located based on all available data at 1,160 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes (24.9°N, 132.2°E), packed with maximum sustained winds of 145 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 180 kph. It was forecast to move westward at 15 kph.
The estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within the 300-km diameter of the typhoon.
No public storm warning signal has been raised in any part of the country, PAGASA said, noting that with its current movement and speed, typhoon “Goring” is forecast to be outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) or at 1,020 km northeast of Basco, Batanes by Saturday morning.
By Sunday morning, it is expected to be at 1,065 km northeast of Basco, Batanes.
Meanwhile, as of 10 a.m., the LPA was estimated based on all available data at 110 km northeast of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (18.2⁰N, 122.6⁰E).
The weather agency said the LPA is expected to bring light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over the provinces of Isabela, Cagayan, Apayao and Ilocos Norte and the islands of Batanes, Babuyan and Calayan.
The general public and disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned are advised to take necessary precautionary measures against possible flash floods and landslides. (PNA) SCS/CLTC
