(PNA) — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) as of Friday is monitoring two weather disturbances inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as typhoon ‘Halola” (international name) has already entered the PAR and the low pressure area east of Tuguegarao.
In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Jun Galang said that typhoon Halola entered the country on Thursday and locally named as “Goring”, the seventh tropical cyclone to affect the country this year.
He said as of 4 a.m., the eye of typhoon “Goring” was located 1,235 km northeast of Basco, Batanes (24.6°N, 133.1°E) packed with maximum sustained winds of 145 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 180 kph. It is forecast to move west at 15 kph.
Galang said typhoon has no direct affect on the country, no public storm warning signal has been raise in any part of the country. It is not expected to make landfall in any part of the country and will not enhance the southwest monsoon.
With its movement and speed, the typhoon is expected to exit PAR by Friday afternoon and will be headed towards southern Japan.
Meanwhile, Galang said the LPA was spotted some 130 km east northeast of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (18.0°N, 122.8°E).
He said the LPA has slim chance to intensify into tropical depression and may join typhoon Goring as it moves upward but the agency continues to monitor the same.
Once intensifies into a tropical cyclone it will be locally named “Hanna”.
Galang said the presence of LPA will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao and Ilocos Norte and the islands of Batanes, Calayan and Babuyan.
He added that fair weather or partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country until weekend.
In its advisory, PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to southeast will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon and coming from the southwest to west over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.
