DILG Eyes More Performing LGUs through Seal of Good Local Governance
(PNA) –- The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) hopes to find local government units (LGUs) surpass their performance through the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), a scaled-up version of the Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH).
DILG 6 SGLG focal person Deo Orquejo said that the department decided to tighten some more the criteria after it found out that 84 percent of LGUs in the country, 96 percent in Western Visayas, have already been conferred with the SGH.
The SGLG was conceived with added indicators for LGUs to comply but in exchange will extend higher incentives.
Municipalities that are holders of the seal will receive P3 million worth of projects, P5 million for cities and P10 million for the province.
However, they need to pass the three core menu to include good financial housekeeping, social protection and disaster preparedness and anyone of the essential assessment composed of environmental management, peace and order and business friendly and competitiveness.
Orquejo explained that the seal should serve as challenge for LGUs to perform better aligned with the “mahusay at matapat” principle of former Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.
Orquejo said that the assessment at the regional level which is around 60 to 70 percent of the entire score has been completed but the overall result will come from their central office.
He said that they are just awaiting for their central office to disclose the names of LGUs that have qualified for the seal. (PNA) CTB/AJP/PGL/VLO
