Bad Beauty and Style Habits to Break

Published

on

There are some habits that are easy to break while others – not so much. In fashion, there are those habits that come easy but are definitely hard to get rid of. Whether you’re heading to the office, hanging out with friends or attending a formal occasion, avoid a style slip-up.

Bland footwear

If your shoe collect is filled with darker hues, it’s time to lighten things up. Neutral and bright shoes accentuate leg length and may distract from any ankle weight. Dark colored shoes tend to shorten the visual length of the leg. When it comes to shoes, learn to experiment with patterns or bold colors and if ever you do wear black, let the shoes be your eye-catching accessory to keep your whole get-up interesting.

Over-accessorizing

Wearing multiple accessories with textured layers of clothing all at once is something you leave for the models to handle. But in reality, it’s just way too much. Choose one area of your ensemble to be the focal point.

Go for simple accessories if your apparel is the focal point. When your clothing is elegant and clean, have one fun, bold accessory like a neon handbag or chandelier earrings and funky arm candy.

Too much foundation

In an attempt to conceal imperfections, over-applying foundation has been a bad habit many have come to adopt. Less, however, is more. Luminous skin plays a huge role in the fashion industry but layers of makeup make you look older and add depth to the wrinkles and other lines on your face. Achieve complexion perfection with the right skin care routine and you won’t worry much about perfect coverage.

Wearing too much black

If black reigns in your closet, you might want to think about diversifying. Many people have been conditioned to the idea that black is slimming and classy but it’s not always flattering. Since black absorbs light and doesn’t reflect, it has that tendency to make surface skin appear dark which accentuates circles, lines and skin discoloration. Also, going black isn’t the best idea during warmer months. The fashion fix is to try bright shades of peach, coral and tangerine which reflect warmth and vibrancy on the skin, enhancing skin tone and illuminating the face. Go bold!

Dramatic day makeup

Go for a more subtle look during the day. Instead of applying every shade in your makeup kit, be selective with color and focus on the assets which frame your face like your brow, lip and cheekbones.

A great summer look is the ‘white glow’ or candlelight look since it works for every age group. Natural mineral foundation with white eye shadow from brow to lid lets a heavier application of black mascara define the eye. Finish and lightly apply peach, bronze or apricot blush with subtle gold glimmer or nude lip color. This reflects natural light to create a warm glow – the ideal look when it’s sunny outside.
