Colon Night Market to Resume Operations
(Cebu City – PIO) — To bring back the old glory of the country’s oldest street – the Colon Street – the city government here through its Downtown Revitalization Project will once again hold a Night Market which will resume its operations on May 15, 2015 Friday.
Colon Night Market is a program of Mayor Michael L Rama way back his stint as a city Vice Mayor which he initiated in 2007 right after the Association of South East Asian Nation (ASEAN) summit held in this city. It aims to bring back the old glory of the oldest street in the country which was the center of trade, commerce and industry decades ago and to revitalize the city’s downtown area.
It also serves like a Divisoria in Manila which cater the needs of the different people from different walks of life to enjoy buying low priced items from kitchen utensils, household needs, garments, school supplies, finger and street foods, among several others.
In an interview with the BARUGG News, Cebu City Downtown Revitalization Project president George Chu underscored that, “This operation now is in line with the celebration of the Cebu Business Month and the opening of the classes.”
Asked for what is something new for this operation, Chu further said that there will be a wider walk-ways to ensure the safety, convenience and smooth flow of the people, adding that there will be at least a hundred of traders that will join in the activity.
The nightly operation which will end until June 30 this year will start at 6:30 in the evening wherein the Night Market traders are allowed to display and sell various items and products up until 2 o’clock dawn.
Furthermore, Mayor Rama wants to ensure the safety and security of everyone who will partake in the event, thus Police visibility will also be seemingly observable in coordination with the Cebu City’s Unified Security Group to patrol along the area and will be on prowl on bad elements.
