City to Commemorate 450th Founding Anniversary of Fort San Pedro
(Cebu City PIO) — To reminisce the past and spur the grandeur of the future of the city’s premiere tourist’s attraction, the city government here led by Mayor Michael L Rama will commemorate the 450th Founding Anniversary of the Fort San Pedro this Friday May 8, 2015.
The event will be highlighted by a Eucharistic Celebration at 5:30 in the afternoon that will be conducted inside the Fort San Pedro. Right after the mass, the ceremonial blessing of the different parts and areas of the Fort will follow.
Fort San Pedro is one of the oldest historical places and the first and smallest fort in the entire Philippine archipelago. Known as the nucleus of the first Spanish settlement in the Philippines, the fort is situated inside the city’s historical Plaza Independencia near in the port area.
The Fort also serves as a venue for various occasions such as birthday parties, weddings, reunions, and anniversaries, among others for an affordable rate. It is open daily from 8am to 8pm with a minimal entrance fee which is P20 for students and children, P24 for the Senior Citizens, and P30 for the adults.
Mayor Rama said that, “The fact alone that it (Fort San Pedro) is now prominent in attention it is because we did our share in enhancing the place.”
The People’s Mayor is very clear with his stand on cultural and heritage preservation making this Queen City of the Philippines dubbed and known also as the,“City of Heritage” and the “ASEAN City of Culture.”
With the city government managing the Fort San Pedro, it is being maintained with its utmost development, enhancement, cleanliness, safety and security thus becoming a must-visit destination of various tourists visiting the city. (Cebu City Public Information Office)
