A 50-centavo rollback in minimum jeepney fares is likely to be implemented in Western Visayas following the falling fuel prices, an Iloilo-based news site reported.

Western Visayas commuters may expect a good news as the regional Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board said it found enough basis for the rollback, a report on The Daily Guardian.

“We allowed them to air their suggestion and those who attended the hearing approved of the rollback. The petitioner has provided us with enough evidence,” quoted LTFRB legal counsel Jose Marie Lamparero.

He added that if the petition is approved, the minimum fare will go down from P7.50 to P7. But even now, Lampanero noted some drivers already charge only P7, report said over GMA News Online.

The petition to reduce the jeepney fares was approved by transport organizations, student, youth and consumer groups at a public hearing on Thursday last week.

Lamparero said they will forward the result of the hearing to the LTFRB central office for action adding that the LTFRB office may forward it this week.

He said they told the petitioner to submit their position paper containing the evidences in order to convince more the board to fast track the approval.

The petition by Iloilo City Loop Alliance of Drivers’ Associations (ICLAJODA) was filed last December, citing fuel price rollbacks.
