Fair Weather as PHL Celebrates Feast of Black Nazarene

Manila (PNA) –Although fair weather is expected in Metro Manila, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday advised devotees of the Black Nazarene to still bring umbrellas and rain gears when they take part in the feast today.

In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said the metropolis is projected to have sunny to partly cloudy skies today with possible occurrence of light showers due to the effect of the northeast monsoon or “hanging amihan.”

“We still recommend bringing of umbrellas, most especially raincoats or raingears for devotees trooping to the Quiapo Church,” Aurelio noted.

He added no tropical cyclone is expected to affect any part of the country within the next two to three days.

Today, millions of people are expected to join there-enactment of “Traslacion” or the transfer of the image of the Black Nazarene from Luneta to Quiapo, which started in 1787.

Devotees believe that the image of the Black Nazarene inQuiapo Church has miraculous powers.

In its advisory, PAGASA said the northeast monsoon continues to be the dominant weather system affecting Luzon which also brings rains over Visayas.

For Friday forecast, PAGASA said Caraga, Central Visayas and the provinces of Leyte and Camiguin will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.

It added Metro Manila, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, Bicol region and the province of Aurora will have cloudy skies with light rains while the rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated light rains.

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

The state weather bureau added that moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over the entire archipelago and the coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

The state weather bureau issued gale warning as strong to gale force winds associated with the surge of northeast monsoon which would affect the seaboards of Luzon and Visayas.

“Fishing boats and other small sea crafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” it warned. (PNA) FPV/CLTC
