City Receives New Fire Truck from Korea
Few weeks from now the Cebu City government will receive another second hand fire truck donated by the officials of Yeosu City in Korea to show their commitment to help the city of its need to have more fire fighting equipment.
Mayor Michael Rama said the donation of fire truck by Yeosu City Mayor Kim Chung-seog will not only strengthen the friendship of the two “sister cities” but will also improve the fire fighting capabilities of our firemen.
The documents showed that the 9-ton fire truck was purchased by Yeosu City government in 1996 and because the Korean city is buying new fire trucks, its officials have decided to give one of them to Cebu City.
Yeosu City is one of several foreign cities that have “sister city relationship” with Cebu City, like the City of Kaoshiung, Taiwan and Yokohama in Japan that donated several of their used buses to Cebu City.
In last week’s session of the City Council, the city legislators had already authorized Rama to accept the donated fire truck by Yeosu City.
“The purpose of donation, sponsored by citizens of Yeosu, is to enhance frienship between two cities and furthermore two countries,” the mayor of Yeosu City said.
He added that Yeosu City government supports relief activities and development aid projects for the world’s peace and protection of human rights.
Only two months ago, the city also availed a brand new Rosenbauer TLF 4,000 fire truck from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to enhance the city’s fire fighting capabilities.
City fire marshall William Tacaldo had also asked the city government to help the Cebu City Fire Department to avail of a fire truck that is capable to combat fires in high-rise buildings.
