Province of Cebu is getting ready for the coming 12th Energy Ministerial Meetings of the 2015 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit. The meeting will be held in Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa from Oct. 12-14, 2015.

In her visit to Cebu recently, Department of Energy Usec. Loreta Ayson coordinated with Governor Hilario P. Davide III and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza to ensure the success of the meeting.

“We request support and cooperation from the local government officials which we are already getting from them. They’re very cooperative and supportive,” said Ayson.

“Dakong dungog ni para sa (This is a great honor for) Cebu and an opportunity to find investors with the coming of many foreign delegates for the meeting,” expressed Davide.

Energy ministers from 21 APEC member economies are expected to come.

These countries include Australia, Brunei, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, United States, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Chile, Peru, Russia and Vietnam.

At the end of the meetings, Ayson said the ministers will come up a document called “Ministerial Declaration” containing APEC member economies’ agenda on the meeting’s topic.

Ayson also noted the need for tight security in “land, water and air.”

“There is a close coordination between the Cebu security, as well as (Department of) National Defense, Philippine National Police (PNP) and other agencies for the security of the APEC hosting in the country next year,” she added.

PNP Sr. Supt. Conrado Capa assured that the police already have a security plan in place.

“We have started the security preparations based on the security template of the APEC organizing committee. Airport, on site and route, convoy security as well as crowd control were the main concerns,” he said.

A dialogue between energy ministers and business leaders and international energy exhibit will be done simultaneously with the ministers’ meeting. Site visits and cultural shows are prepared for the visitors.

Aside from the Energy Ministerial Meeting, Cebu will also host the meetings on Finance in September and Transportation in October next year.
