“Hi Korea, Annyeong ASEAN” to Culminate in Manila on November 22

Manila (PIA) – The Embassy of the Repub­lic of Korea and the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the Philip­pines will hold the “Hi Korea, Annyeong ASEAN” on November 22 at the Boni­facio High Street in Taguig City to celebrate the upcoming Korea-ASEAN Commemorative Summit this December in Busan, Korea.

According to KCC, the said event in Manila hopes to deepen the awareness of Filipinos on Korean culture, with several renowned perfor­mance groups flying in Korea, namely Dong Rak Traditional Performance Arts Group, Di­dim Dance Company, Yoon Joo Hee Microcosm Ensemble, Go­rilla Crews, and the Jo Joo Hyun Dance Company.

The Dong Rak Traditional Performing Arts Group will perform various percussion music such “aspan gut” or the Korean traditional music of the farmers; and the “samulnori” or the Korean traditional percussion quartet. Didim Dance Company, on the other hand, will be highlighting the beautiful motion of Korean dances with the court dance “Lotus in the Morning” and “Spring Snow” to the tune of the Korean traditional zithergayageum.

The Ensemble Yoon Joo Hee Microcosm is known to perform modern music with the accompaniment of Korean traditional instruments. For this particular event, the said Ensemble will be performing ABBA’s 1976 hit “Dancing Queen” with Korean traditional instruments. The 40-strong team street dance group Gorilla Crews, known for their “The Ballerina who Loves a B-Boy” will perform diverse dancing styles.

Finally, the ballet company Jo Ju Hyun Dance Company is known for performing modern creative ballet. The audience can watch mournful and lyrical gestures of “The Nature” danced by a couple to the accompaniment of Korean traditional classic song, infused to techniques of classical ballet.

Aside from these perfor­mances, the guest and the audi­ence can catch the Korean pop­ular movie “Take Off,” a story about national athletics of ski jumping.
