President Aquino to Visit Guiuan Today

Guiuan, Eastern, Samar – President Benigno S. Aquino III is scheduled to visit Guiuan, Eastern Samar Friday to lead the turnover of housing units to displaced families brought by super typhoon Yolanda (International name: Haiyan) one year ago.

An actual turnover of a certificate of occupancy of a temporary shelter to a beneficiary family will be done by the President himself at Cogon relocation site including the handover of basic needs such as hygiene kits, kitchen wares, among others.

In said occasion, the President will also conduct inspection of three rehabilitation projects such as the Guiuan Public Market, Guiuan East Central Elementary School and Cogon relocation site in Brgy. Cogon, also in Guiuan.

More than 200 Yolanda survivors will benefit the 133 housing units in Brgy. Cogon wherein the construction at the relocation site with a 15,533 square meters land area started last September 9, 2014.

Some of the cabinet secretaries and government officials who are expected to accompany the President include OPARR Secretary Panfilo Lacson, Deped Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro, DSWD Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman, DILG Secretary Mar Roxas, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson, DOTC Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya and National Housing Authority (NHA) General Manager Atty. Chito Cruz.

The President’s visit is in time of one year commemoration of Yolanda, the strongest typhoon ever recorded. It was in Guiuan where Yolanda made its first landfall on November 8, 2013. (cba/PIA-8)
