Mega Cebu Awards: Winners of Mega Cebu Month Contests

In a euphoric ceremony at the Ayala Center Cebu last October 11, the Mega Cebu team awarded the winners of some of its Mega Cebu Month activities, including High School Quiz Bowl, College Quiz Bowl, Oratorical Contest, Extemporaneous Speaking Contest, Selfie Contest, and Search for Mega Cebu Teacher.

These contests are among the measures meant to increase the awareness about Mega Cebu, a project of the Metro Cebu Development Coordinating Board (MCDCB) with a vision to make Cebu a more sustainable place to live in. This year’s Mega Cebu Month theme is “Engaging Change.”

The winners for the High School Quiz Bowl are Ocana National High School representing Carcar City (champion); Naga City—Naga National High School, Tuyan National High School, Naga Enhanced National High School, and Cantaw-an National High School (first place); Minglanilla National Science High School representing Minglanilla (second place);

For the College Quiz Bowl, the winners are University of the Visayas representing Cebu City (champion); University of San Carlos also representing Cebu City (first place); and Lapu-Lapu City College for Lapu-Lapu City (second place).

Oration Contest winners are Rhodalee Otadoy of Consolacion National High School (champion); Genevieve Langga of Cebu City Science National High School (first place); and Zacherey Pekitpekit of STEC – Danao (second place).

The winners for the Extemporaneous Contest are Flora May Gebilaguin of University of San Jose-Recoletos (champion); Hazel Joy Cabante of Cebu Normal University (first place); and Lavernia Velez of Lapu-Lapu City College (second place).

For the Teacher’s Competition, the winners are Glenny E. Laping of Punta Engano National High School (champion and recipient of the Julie’s Award); Ronald Dungog of STEC – Danao (first place); Mr. Victor P. Mancao of Naga National High School (second place). Irene Lopez of Cebu City National Science High School was awarded Best Presenter.

Under the Mega Cebu Jing MTV-Making Contest, the winners are Adelante Advertising Agency of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (champion); Cinco Productions of University of San Jose-Recoletos (first place); and Danao – Mean M of Rosemont Hills Montessori College (second place).

Selfie Contest winners are Lou Dominique Piczon (champion); Francis Louie Regala (first place); and Rheaflor Ylanan (second place).

Winners for the Testimonial-Making Video Contest will be announced on October 24.

All these efforts are geared towards creating a Wholesome, Advanced, Vibrant, Equitable, and Sustainable (W.A.V.E.S.) Cebu by 2050.

A concept upheld and spearheaded by MCDCB, Mega Cebu is based on the framework of a city region where local government units (LGUs) are encouraged to collaborate and coordinate policies, plans, programs, projects, and practices addressing common and trans-boundary assets, issues, and challenges.
