Toledo Mayor: Council is Hampering Services
Toledo City Mayor John Henry Osmeña said that the City Council is “being uncooperative” and obstructs the implementation of his projects.
“The City Council, with its being uncooperative (to the executive department), it’s hampering our abilities to act for the good of the people,” said Osmeña, a first-term mayor.
Osmeña, a former senator, did not mention what these projects that the council had reportedly ‘hampered’ but he said there are too many of them.
In May this year, the Court of Appeals allowed the city government to use the controversial P619-million budget for this year. The majority of the council had asked the regional trial court to issue an injunction for the disbursement of the annual budget as it was reportedly pass without a quorum.
Early this year, Osmeña had also turned down the request of the city police for logistics support, saying that the council, with seven of its members who are with the opposition, is jeopardizing the approval of all his requests.
