In celebration of Design Week Philippines (DWP), the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) puts together a series of events and design installations in the 60th show edition of Manila FAME, the country’s premier design and lifestyle event slated at the SMX Convention Center on October 16-19.

Manila FAME plays host to activities marking Design Week Philippines: Katha Awards (Philippine design excellence awards), Design Talks (series of inspirational talks by design icons), Design Tours (special tours around Metro Manila’s design destinations), Creative Environment (local creative communities and urban development initiatives), and Creative Placemaking: Narratives from the Edge (special art installations by DWP partners at the Manila FAME).

Katha Awards is a significant platform where Philippine product design innovation and excellence are recognized. Its goal is to give distinction to ingenious designs and encourage exporters to raise their design standards for Philippine export products as well as to pursue a skillful exploration of new materials and processes. The awarding ceremony will be held at Hall ONE International Trade Center in Pasay City on October 16.

Big names in the local and international design industry will grace the much awaited Design Talks, the platform for industry practitioners, design aficionados, and people from the academe to gain insights and inspiration from the experiences of design icons from all over the world. With the theme “Design for Life,” all talks will be held at the SMX Convention Center on October 16-19.

Design Tours will provide Manila FAME buyers and guests a deeper appreciation of the rich cultural and creative capital of the Philippines, as it gives a glimpse of what the Philippines can offer beyond the walls of the exhibition venue, with focus on food, arts, and design. This edition of Design Tours, set on October 18, will feature a culinary walking tour around the oldest Chinatown in the world: the district of Binondo in Manila. The tour will culminate in an exciting gastronomic experience of authentic Filipino-Chinese cuisine.
