PSA to Express Support Regional Economic Integration

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) assured to improve their services to support the globalization and regional economic integration.

Engr. Ariel Florendo, PSA Regional Director said “we are more than ready and prepared for the coming national economic integration on 2015.”

PSA is the leading agency of the other four sub-government agencies it supervises, such as National Statistics Office, Bureau of Labor and Employment Statistics, Bureau of Agricultural Statistics, and National Statistical Coordination Board.

Florendo said this statistical jobs of the other sub-government agencies may be merged together in one office.

“But functions of their respective managers are the same, and at least they work together in one office to lessen the operational expenses of the national government”, Florendo said.

One of the biggest challenged faced by the PSA is the population survey this coming 2015.

The said survey is conducted once in every five years, so that if the country has more than 90 million population on its 2010 survey,” there is a possibility that on 2015, it will reach up to 100 million more or less” Florendo said.

He said the PSA is not only preparing its personnel to supervise the upcoming population survey, but even the public are also advised to prepare themselves by answering politely to the enumerators’ questions to ensure the veracity of the population counting results.

Being expert to this job, Florendo said all assigned personnel for the job are well trained and he can vouch their integrity and credibility to handle the job.

That’s the reason why Florendo was so enthusiastic when asked how supportive is PSA to the coming national and regional economic integration.

On 2015, all countries within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are set to integrate not only their products but even all its services and PSA already knows very much of its role, Florendo said.

That is the reason Florendo was so proud celebrating its 25th National Statistics Month (NSM), this month of October pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647, signed by the late President Corazon Aquino declaring every October of each year as NSM.

The PSA’s celebration anchored on the theme: ” NSM at 25 Years and Beyond: Solid and Responsive Philippine Statistics System in Support of Globalization and Regional Economic Intgeration”.
