LTO Says 14T New Plates Ready for Distribution in CenVis
(PNA) — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 is now ready to distribute at least 14,000 new vehicle plates in Central Visayas, an official said.
LTO Assistant Secretary Alfonso Tan said vehicle owners should start claiming their license plate because the LTO will strictly implement the “no registration, no travel policy” in the second week of October.
Tan, who was in Cebu Thursday for the regional directors’ conference, said there was no more reason for owners whose vehicles still have no plates.
The 14,000 plates are intended for four-wheeled vehicles.
A total of 26,000 new license plates for motorcycles in Central Visayas also arrived last month.
The Department of Transportation and Communication said the modern license plate contained advanced security features and new alphanumeric design to stop counterfeiting and prevent colorum, carnapped and smuggled vehicles on the streets.
A DOTC statement said the new license plate has security images that cannot be removed by any known method without damaging the sheeting while the bolt head screw and nuts will have their own serial number.
Tan said the “no registration, no travel” policy should have been implemented in July but was deferred because of the request of the car dealers.
Car dealers asked for an extension because car manufacturers themselves will only furnish them with the certificate of stock report three to four months after a car is sold.
A certificate of stock report is one of the requirements for a vehicle to be registered.
Tan said a car should be registered within seven days from the time of the purchase. (PNA) LAM/EB
