2 LPAs to Bring More Rains Thursday — PAGASA
Manila (PNA) — Cloudy and rainy weather will continue to prevail in most parts of the country on Thursday because of the presence of two low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Meno Mendoza said that as 4 a.m. the LPA was spotted in the vicinity of Casiguran, Aurora (16.0ºN, 122.6ºE) while another LPA was estimated based on all available data at 770 km east of Virac, Catanduanes (13.5ºN 132.0ºE).
Mendoza said the LPA in Aurora has slim chance to intensify into tropical depression as is expected to dissipate when it hits landmass.
Even though it is not expected to intensify into a tropical depression, Mendoza said the LPA is still projected to bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains over Luzon, including Metro Manila, and Visayas.
Mendoza noted the other LPA spotted in Catanduanes will also bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms over the regions of Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao and Caraga.
He said this weather disturbance has high chance to intensify into tropical depression since its in the sea.
Once the LPA intensifies into a tropical depression inside the country, it will be locally named “Karding”.
Mendoza said once it develops into a tropical depression, it is not expected to make a landfall if it maintains its northward direction.
PAGASA expects two to three cyclones to visit the country this September.
He added the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.
In its advisory, PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to northwest will prevail over Luzon and coming from the west to southwest over Visayas and Mindanao.
The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.
It added no gale warning was issued as sea travel will be safe for fisherfolk and small seacraft. (PNA) JBP/CLTC
