Trough of LPA Continues to Bring Rains Over Bicol,Visayas-PAGASA

Manila (PNA) — The trough or extended cloudiness of low pressure area hovering east of Luzon continues to bring light to moderate rains over Bicol region and Visayas, the state weather bureau said on Saturday.

In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Meno Mendoza said that as of 10 a.m. the LPA was spotted some 560 km east northeast of Casiguran, Aurora (17.5˚N, 128.0˚E).

He noted that it was not expected to directly affect the country but the trough of LPA will bring light to moderate rains and thunderstorms in Bicol region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas and Palawan.

“Residents in these areas and local disaster risk reduction management councils concerned are advised to be alert and take all the necessary precautionary measures and monitor updates on this weather disturbance,” PAGASA said in an advisory.

Mendoza said many parts of the country will continue to experience fair weather until Sunday.

He said the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will have sunny to cloudy skies with possible isolated rains due to localized thunderstorms.

Based on numerical models, Mendoza said the weather disturbance has a slim chance to intensify into a tropical cyclone.

But Mendoza said the weather bureau continues to monitor the LPA.

But in case it intensifies into a tropical depression within the Philippine territory, Mendoza said it would be named “Kanor” — it will be the second cyclone to visit the country this month and the 11th for this year.

The weather bureau still expects two or three more tropical cyclones to enter the country this month. (PNA) JBP/CLTC
