Typhoon ‘Neoguri’ May Enter PAR Sunday
Manila — The tropical storm outside the country has intensified into a typhoon and could enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Sunday, the state weather bureau said on Saturday.
PAGASA said that as of 4 a.m. the typhoon, internationally codenamed Neoguri, was estimated at 1,410 km east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes (14.7ºN, 138.9ºE).
Once it enters the PAR it will be named “Florita”, the sixth tropical cyclone to enter country for this year.
But, even though Neoguri is still outside the PAR, it would enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing light to moderate rain to the Visayas, Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), the Bicol region, and areas of Mindanao on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the low pressure area off Northern Luzon has already dissipated.
With this development, the rest of the country including Metro Manila will have fair weather on Saturday and will be partly cloudy to cloudy, with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.
PAGASA also said moderate to strong winds coming from the southwest to west will prevail over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.
It added light to moderate winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over the rest of the country with slight to moderate seas. (PNA) JBP/CLTC
